Hi,My name is ChrisHu. I have been playing fighting games for at least 13 years. Today I am going to talk about my experience about how to exactlly "play" fighting game and having fun on fighting game since a lot of people dont know "what they are doing and why they cant step their shit up!" lol This topic is very serious, so people who read this article hopefully I can help them out a little bit.
Fighting game concept seperate into two parts,First one is "4 factors of fighting game" another one is "affective factor in fighting game"
The 4 factors of fighting game are 4 "tions" "information, combination,reaction,execution" These are 4 factors people need to understand and train very hard.
Information-------------Information means characters information,players information,yourself information.characters information that means u have to understand your character. A lot of ppl actually dont completely know the character thay are maining, that relates to yourself personality,if u are a aggresive person or deffensive person or fishing person,that decide how u play your chacracter. U have to push what move u can punish, what move u cant, (or recovery ,etc) exactlly know all the characters frame data.(u can check data frame book or play more!) Since you know your style plus the chacracters ability.And then u create your own chacracter!(including tricks, mix up!)
Combination-------------Combination means mix up,anti mix up, mix up is a very comprehensive topic we are discussing about, mix up is about your style. let me have a example, SF4 once u knock down the opponent, how many options u have? basically, it's grab,fake grab(walk front and then walk back!) cross up, fake cross up, do nothing trick the opponent do stupid shit. that's the basic option mix up u can have, pirticular chacracters have pirticular mix up, like rufus, EL,etc. how to use good mix up that relates how u know about your opponent style during the match. Mix up is the shit u guys have to know and use it very smoothly.
Reaction-----------------Reaction is about person talent,like the plus bounus in the match. like u using Ryu, react DP, react ultra with the coming action from opponent. Reaction can be trained.If u guys wanna train reaction,talk to me about how to train reaction, I could help u guys.
Execution--------------- My concept for Execution is easy, u make a big damage on your opponent from combo or ultra!that relates to your reaction, that can be trained also. U guys have to train combos,make sure u guys dont miss combos during the real match!(not trainning mode!!) I suggest u train your combo 100 times perday. that's how we train in the old days!
That's the 4 factors for fighting game. u guys have to understand all of them for u guys being decent!....wait! what? only decent? Not professional?? Yes, 4 factors only make u into decent players! not pro! coz u need the second part! affecive factor!
Affective Factor mostly means u guys playing in tournament or in some matches u and your opponent really close that gonna affect the result. The first one is "eliminate option" ALL about "mind games!" eliminate option means u killing the option the opponent try to work on you. For example ryu vs rufus, when rufus dive kick comes in,rufus will have a lot of mix up options gonna work on you, dive kick and then dive kick again, dive kick+grab, dive kick+short+grab,etc .A lot of options coming up on you, make u so confuse.
I think people encounter a lot of these situation against good rufus. Then, we need to eliminate his mix up options! How? acutally in a tournament, or in a match, Handling pressure and gambling are diffinitely skills u need to use? how to gameble? when dive kick comes in, after u block dive kick, u only thing have to is DP!OR NOT! People will ask it's dangerous if u dp rufus after he dive kick,if rufus block, i gonna get pusnish! Yes maybe u are right,but! rufus dive kick in, he is not gonna do anything after dive kick?, the answer is 50 50! coz In the match, if u dare to random dp after he dive kick in ,that means ,the opponent has to think u have the ability to have random dp! that gonna kill a lot of mix up he tries to use. I call that" u dont scare, I dont scare!" U dont scare to dive kick in and then press something, then i dont scare to press a random dp out to beat u!" Dp is danerous, but "Brave plus smart" is the point for u to win the match ultimately!
Gambling is not just gamble, is about how many pressure u can take,maybe wake up dp is like idiot, in the other way, wake up dp,wake up ultra is the best suprise attack in professional match, but u cant abuse wake up dp, or 50 50 dp, that means experience help u to decide when u wake up dp, or 50 50 dp.
Another factor is like Lucky, playing back group, some players like people support them when they playing, some players like they play in silence. just a bonus stregth to help u win in the match
